Mistral AI, the Paris-based artificial intelligence company valued at approximately €11.7 billion ($13.8 billion), has released Workflows in public preview — a production-grade orchestration engine designed to coordinate multi-step AI agent tasks at enterprise scale. The announcement, made Tuesday, positions Mistral more directly in the competitive market for AI pipeline infrastructure alongside platforms such as LangChain, AWS Step Functions, and Google Vertex AI Pipelines.
Workflows is built on Temporal, a widely used open-source orchestration framework recognized for its durability and fault-tolerance in distributed systems. Mistral stated that the system is already handling millions of daily executions, indicating substantial real-world deployment prior to its public preview launch.
The product targets developers and enterprises building complex AI agent pipelines that require reliable coordination of multiple steps, models, external APIs, and conditional logic. Unlike single-shot LLM API calls, orchestrated workflows must manage persistent state across long-running processes, handle failures gracefully, and guarantee execution order — requirements that standard AI inference endpoints are not engineered to fulfill natively.
Mistral's implementation integrates directly with its own model family, including Mistral Large and the recently released Mistral Medium 3, offering developers tight coupling between orchestration and inference within a single vendor ecosystem. The Temporal foundation provides enterprise reliability guarantees, including automatic retries, event sourcing, and auditability — capabilities increasingly demanded by regulated industries deploying AI at scale.
Mistral AI has grown rapidly since its founding in 2023, becoming one of Europe's most prominent AI companies and a widely cited alternative to American and Chinese model providers. The company has pursued a dual strategy of releasing high-quality open-weights models under permissive licenses while maintaining a proprietary frontier tier for enterprise customers. The Workflows launch extends this positioning further into enterprise workflow automation.
Pricing for Workflows will follow a consumption-based model aligned with the number of workflow steps executed. A general availability date has not been announced. Developers can access the product through Mistral's developer platform during the public preview period.
